Led by Bristol Academy of Drama’s experienced Drama Facilitators, the children will build their new theatrical world using costumes and props. They will not only perform in the play but, throughout the creative process, learn to share ideas and work with others to bring the story to life.

Skills that are built up in these sessions:

  • listening to others who may have different ideas and respecting others’ opinions
  • develop dramatic skills such as exploring voice, movement, gesture and facial expression
  • speaking clearly and with purpose through voice projection skills
  • an increase in self-confidence and self-awareness,
  • building creative thinking skills by coming up with ideas as to how to present our story

I bet you think you know this story.
You don’t. The real one’s are much more gory.

A play in 3 days is a fun filled drama workshop offering children aged 7-11 years the opportunity to devise, rehearse and perform a play under the guidance of Bristol Academy of Drama’s experienced Drama Facilitators.

Throughout the 3 days, the group will create their own version of Roald Dhal’s “Revolting Rhymes” which take a rather different look at some of the best known Fairytales. They will develop characters, learn stagecraft skills, devise scenes to build their play for a performance on the final afternoon for family and friends to enjoy. This process is designed to develop creative thinking, drama and improvisation skills and build confidence and teamwork.

Students can let their imagination run wild as they not only create their version of some of the Revolting Rhymes through ensemble work but hone their story letting skills. Will Jack ever learn to wash, will Red Riding Hood manage to help those poor pigs get rid of the Wolf once and for all? So much to explore in these fun and wonderful tales with bite and there is no limit to what can be achieved; who knows what strange and wonderful characters that can be created and what worlds their audiences will be transported to.

Not only will they received guidance and help from Bristol Academy of Drama’s Facilitators but they will be given props and costumes to help create the world of their play.

It will be a few days of building fun memories, learning new skills and making new friends.

Due to limited spaces available, it is recommended that parents/guardians book early to avoid disappointment. Group and sibling discount available, simply email us for discount codes and booking information

St Werburghs, in association with Bristol Academy of Drama, are delighted to be offering infant school children the opportunity to take an exciting and creative journey into the world of drama and performance by exploring and then sharing a short performance piece based on the wonderfully fun and engaging story Solomon Crocodile by Catherine Rayner.

The workshop offers younger children the opportunity to develop the building blocks of drama and performance. Throughout the 2 days the group will explore the world of the book; develop characters, create soundscapes, form scenes and tell stories in order to build their creation into a performance which will be shared at the end of the 2 days. This process is designed to develop creativity, build confidence and help with communication skills and teamwork. But more than that is designed for the children to have a really fun few days and introduce them to the world of theatre performance.

They will not only perform in the play but, throughout the creative process, learn to share ideas and work with others to bring the story to life. Through speaking, listening and using imagination, children will build their understanding of how to dramatize a story and present a finished performance for an audience of family and friends to enjoy.
